Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018

It’s that time of the year whenwe start looking ahead to the trends in fashion and design.
“The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than what’s in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today,” says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

Last year’s color was a serene shade of green- -Greenery was a color of rejuvenation and revitalization. It was an easy going, calming color that could work as a neutral.  This year Pantone has gone bolder and has picked a deep Purple called Ultra Violet. Pantone says it chose this color because it conveys “originality and ingenuity; and is a distinctive and complex purple shade that fascinates and intrigues.”

The color is a departure from the past couple years choices. This purple is deep and interesting. It will work well with the greys that have been the popular neutrals recently. For centuries, purple has been associated with royalty, and it can add elegance to any space.

“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come”- Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

In response to her request, I've enumerated some decorating tips below that may help with those rooms and areas that are smaller than we'd like.
