A Relaxing Bedroom Color

Your bedroom should be calm, it should be a place of rest and relaxation. But all too often it becomes a place to catch up on work on and watch TV. While bad habits are hard to change you can still make your bedroom the oasis it ought to be using one simple trick-- paint it blue.

The color blue soothes the mind and promotes physical relaxation. It is a color that represents peace and tranquility, and it promotes calmness. It has been shown to slow the metabolism, suppress appetite and even to help reduce blood pressure and heart rate.

Blue is one of the most popular colors as demonstrated by the color trends for this year. Three top companies have chosen a shade of dark blue as their color of the year for 2020. Even the darker shades can make a room feel bigger and more spacious. But if you are not ready to paint the whole room in your favorite blue hue, try it on an accent wall or incorporate it into your décor choices.

Here are some great shades of blue to use in your bedroom:

Pantone’s pick for 2020 is a timeless and enduring blue hue. Classic Blue (Pantone 19-4052) reminiscent of the night sky and is a calming, restful color.
“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on.” commented Leatrice
Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

A darker hue presented by Sherwin Williams went a little darker with their pick Naval (SW6244). This color is a rich bold navy hue. This color feels both classic and modern. “The use of color in interior design is changing. It is not just about what a space looks like anymore, but how it makes you feel. Naval is reminiscent of the night sky, which people have looked to for centuries for guidance, as a muse and as a reminder to live more mindfully.” Said Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams.

Soul Search is a deep, soothing blue that is inspired by the ocean depths. The warm blue undertones make this color deep and inviting. This color is for people that love the coast but not the pastels that tend to be used in beach home décor. The ocean is deep and so is this color. Behr T18-14

Blueprint was Behr’s pick for 2019, it is a deep, rich shade of blue that they described as “warmer than denim and softer than navy” in a recent press release
“This universally appealing hue provides a steady stream of positivity and is poised to be an instant classic for years to come” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr.

Have a great month and Happy Decorating!

Make Your Rooms Feel More Spacious

If you're like me, I don't like to walk into a room and feel that it is closing in on me - this probably means that it is crowded with too much furniture and accessories - or just "stuff". I love an open, spacious feeling in a room - even if the room is small. Whether it is in a house, an apartment, condo or dorm, decorating small areas can be challenging. One of my "fans" has asked me to address some solutions to the crowded feeling. In response to her request, I've enumerated some decorating tips below that may help with those rooms and areas that are smaller than we'd like. Some of my suggestions are merely optical illusions which attract the eye and center it on the focal point. The end result is a room that feels larger than it is and much more spacious. One thing to remember: dark colors usually make a space feel more intimate and cozy while light shades make a room feel more open and spacious. If you want that spacious feeling, choo...

Window Treatments - Customer Service Needed!!!

Choosing window treatments can be easier said than done. As an interior decorator, I can suggest the fabric and style of a window treatment to coordinate with the room's decorations. However, I would consult a window treatment specialist whenever it concerns the actual fabrication of the curtain/blind. There are a lot of factors that need to be considered when you choose the RIGHT window treatment. This does not mean throwing up a sheet in front of your window and you’re done. If you want your windows to look BEAUTIFUL , I’d like to suggest that you enlist the help of a professional window treatment specialist. But finding the RIGHT specialist is the key to a happy client/consumer. Unfortunately, I’ve had second-hand experience with a poorly made window treatment. My decorating client decided purchase her window treatments through a well-known window treatment company, who will remain anonymous, and one that she had used before with great satisfaction. As her decora...
