Fall Decorating Ideas

--> Fall Decorating Ideas

This weekend I spent time around a campfire, snuggled in my sweater and enjoyed the crisp autumn air.  Fall has made it appearance; the leaves are changing color and it is time to start decorating your home for the season.

Painted Pumpkins- One of the most iconic symbols of fall is the pumpkin. While it is traditional to use orange pumpkins to decorate your porch, they may not go with your interior décor. If this is the case, you can choose to paint them in a variety of colors from gold to chalkboard. A hot trend this year is to use metallic paint or foil to decorate your painted pumpkin.

Buffalo Check- Plaid patterns are perfect for decorating for the fall. Buffalo check is a large bold block of color, usually in black and white. It is easy to layer this pattern because of the color scheme and visually simple pattern. Add this pattern in cozy pillows and throws. These pillows from Pier One Imports are fun and inviting and would look perfect on your couch.

Unexpected Florals- You can’t go wrong with flowers when decorating your holiday table. While the typical fall flowers consist of mums and sunflowers, why not go with something a little less expected. In this centerpiece, you can see the pumpkin used as a vase for the variety of succulents. Use this as the start of a fabulous table-scape for your Thanksgiving celebration.

Natural Elements- One of my favorite ways to decorate for fall is to use natural elements.  I love to string up pinecones and acorns in a pretty garland for my table and mantle. I found this paper oak leaf garland and Crate and Barrel that creates a great look that can last through many seasons. Drape this on your mantel or banister for a natural, but more stylized look.

Muted Tones- One of my favorite colors of the fall season is Pantone’s Red Pear. It is described as a, “deliciously, deep red, whose luscious depth entices,” it is a rich and decadent burgundy with cool undertones.

Happy Decorating, everyone!

Make Your Rooms Feel More Spacious

If you're like me, I don't like to walk into a room and feel that it is closing in on me - this probably means that it is crowded with too much furniture and accessories - or just "stuff". I love an open, spacious feeling in a room - even if the room is small. Whether it is in a house, an apartment, condo or dorm, decorating small areas can be challenging. One of my "fans" has asked me to address some solutions to the crowded feeling. In response to her request, I've enumerated some decorating tips below that may help with those rooms and areas that are smaller than we'd like. Some of my suggestions are merely optical illusions which attract the eye and center it on the focal point. The end result is a room that feels larger than it is and much more spacious.
