For the Love of Design
Do you love to decorate your home for different occasions or
seasons? I do and I always feel like after Christmas there is such a long space
before I can decorate for spring and Easter.
I think I end up keeping my Christmas decorations up a little too long
to fill the void. But this year I
decided to decorate for Valentine’s Day; it isn’t a typical holiday to decorate
for, but I think that with a couple simple touches you can bring the warmth of Valentine’s
Day into your home.
Here are couple of examples of simple, chic Valentine's-inspired designs for your home.
Go Neutral: Decorating for Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to
be all red, pink and hearts all over.
You can achieve a great look with subtle touches. The mantel shown in the picture shows a
rustic vignette with just a hint of Valentine’s Day. By just adding a simple text element to an
already existing design, you can really give the impression of the holiday
without overdoing it.
Repurpose: So if
you have a great Christmas wreath that is still in good shape you can use it in
your Valentines decorating as well. Just
take off the Christmas décor (if possible) and add a simple banner or some
hearts. You can even change out the
ribbon to something more valentine appropriate.
In the example you can see a classic wreath with a simple valentine
banner. The red chevron ribbon used for
Christmas is neutral enough to be kept for Valentine’s Day.
Fresh Flowers: Flowers
tend to go hand in hand with Valentine’s Day. You can create a great centerpiece using fresh
or artificial flowers to use as a focal point for your holiday design. Your table can be the perfect place for such
a focal point. In the picture you can see
that the designer used cups with initial letters on them and they spelled out
LOVE. The pretty creams and pink flowers
are a perfect pairing.
