Ideas for Decorating Your Outdoor "Rooms" on a Budget

Summer is almost upon us, and most of us want to spend more and more time outdoors. If you love relaxing on your deck or porch like I do, here are some ideas for decorating your outdoor space. Since outdoor rooms are very popular now, there are many more options to the homeowner. Your outdoor room can be an extension of your home and you can personalize it with some exterior decorating ideas.
Selecting outdoor furniture which suits your personal taste and style may be challenging. Prices range from the inexpensive (resin or aluminum) to the more expensive (wrought iron or wooden) – for example. You can choose from many different styles and colors to meet your needs. And there are many bright new colored accessories (pillows, cushions, umbrellas) featured this year!
If you’re on a budget, discount stores usually have less expensive outdoor furniture available or you can pick up a white Adirondack resin chair for a very reasonable cost. This year, you can even choose some brightly colored Adirondack chairs. Fun! Once you add throw pillows on the chairs, they look great in most settings. You can even find some bargain outdoor furniture at consignment shops and garage sales. If they are wooden or metal, you can usually spray paint them – but make sure you read the label to ensure that you buy a paint that will adhere to the surface.

So - start planning for your time outdoors this summer now - while the selection is great! And please check out my "A Goode Start Decorating and Home Staging" Facebook page and my website at www.AGoodeStartDecorating.com. Happy Decorating!!!!

Top 5 colors for Selling your Home

Paint is probably the easiest and most economical change you can make to your house when it is on the market. A fresh coat of paint can instantly change the feel of your space. When you’re selling your home you want to make the space neutral to appeal to a wider variety of buyers.

Gray has been popular for a couple years, and in 2020 it is still popular but much lighter than before. Grey is a great color to use when a house is on the market, it creates a warm and sophisticated feel. With the trend being going towards lighter colors we are seeing white and light creams becoming popular.

Here are the top 5 colors to use when putting your house on the market:
Pale Oak: This color from Benjamin Moore is becoming a favorite color among sellers and home owners alike. It has enough warmth in the gray family to keep it from looking cold and sterile. This color is versatile and depending on the room and lighting it can take on different aspects. It really coordinates well with almost all color…

READY, SET, DOWNSIZE!

By Deborah Goode, CID
There can be many different reasons for downsizing – but moving is probably the most common. Well, I’m not moving, but the older I get the more I get annoyed at all the stuff I’ve accumulated over the years. Does this sound familiar to you?
In the past, I would move to a different home every four years. And every time I moved, I would sort through my stuff, donating lots of bags to the Salvation Army, Purple Heart and Goodwill. As you can tell, my love of shopping for clothes, shoes and decorative items has always gotten me in trouble.
However, now that I’ve been living in the same house for the past five years, my “stuff” has been multiplying exponentially. Not only is the crawl space under the house filled up completely, but we now have a garage that has no more extra room – especially for a car. And it's migrating to my two spare bedrooms and the closets are bulging at the seams. I'm really tired of the piles which seem to grow on a weekly basis. And eve…

A Relaxing Bedroom Color

Your bedroom should be calm, it should be a place of rest and relaxation. But all too often it becomes a place to catch up on work on and watch TV. While bad habits are hard to change you can still make your bedroom the oasis it ought to be using one simple trick-- paint it blue.

The color blue soothes the mind and promotes physical relaxation. It is a color that represents peace and tranquility, and it promotes calmness. It has been shown to slow the metabolism, suppress appetite and even to help reduce blood pressure and heart rate.
Blue is one of the most popular colors as demonstrated by the color trends for this year. Three top companies have chosen a shade of dark blue as their color of the year for 2020. Even the darker shades can make a room feel bigger and more spacious. But if you are not ready to paint the whole room in your favorite blue hue, try it on an accent wall or incorporate it into your d├ęcor choices.
Here are some great shades of blue to use in your bedroom:
